Do You Remember #2

A Huge Thank You
To Everyone Who Visited
And Shared Last Week
As We Traveled Down Memory Lane!
I hope you had fun, I know I did!
Thanks for sharing your own memories.

Many of you remembered cheap, cheap gas prices. I just hope we don't look back at the present price and think it was cheap!!

Debbie from Words on Wheels recalled that her Mom had twins in 1961 and because they were twins, one was free.

NanaDiana remembers 21¢ gas and autos as large as tanks
.
Francie from The Scented Cottage Studio had the best bargain, First Child. In her words, "A whopping $5.00".

Dottie from It's Just Dottie remembers watching Roy Rogers and high school sock hops. Yes, I think we must be the same age. I looooved sock hops! The reason they were called sock hops? The dance was held in the gym and you couldn't wear shoes on the basketball court.

Melissa at Kensington Cottage remembers her Grandmother operating a switchboard and fielding calls from celebrities.

Tracie from Three Dogs At Home had two difficult pregnancies that cost gazillions. Thank the Lord there was good medical care and everything turned out great.

Jane at The Cottage At The Crossroads...You naughty girl! What's with putting Prince Albert in that can? Jane,  I will bet a lot of us are guilty of that one also. Loved being reminded.

Barbara at Two Birdies and a B got spanked and had to do chores. Me too, Barbara, we both turned out fantastic. Clarification for you younger ladies, we were spanked, not abused!

Cindy at Creations By Cindy remembers Papa taking her to the store for "real" penny candy.

Suzy at Worthing Court remembers hanging tinsel icicles on the Christmas Tree, one at a time. She was a dedicated designer way back then.

Debbie at reFresh reStyle had a great party line. Mrs. White had a "potty mouth". Oh, I wish Mrs. White had been on my party Line!

Babs at Upstairs Downstairs remembers a neighbor killing a hog in the front yard. I really love my bacon Babs but I sure hope you lived in the country. I know it has to be really cold weather as well.

I had a hard time stopping, I so enjoyed all the memories
but I wanted to share some new memories as well.

   Do You Remember?

1.  Tiny wax cola bottles with colored syrup inside?
My those little things were such a treat. Bite off the top, drink that treasured sweet syrup and chew the wax like gum.

2.  Do you remember...
 Princess Summerfallwinterspring? Who was she?
I always wanted to be Princes Summerfallwinterspring.
Besides, I just liked pronouncing the name.

3.  Do you remember John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever"? Did you Disco? I did... last dance I learned.

4.  Do you remember 10¢ Krystals?
Man, I could eat a dozen of those things. I also remember my first Burger King whopper. It was 25¢.
I didn't have to hide in a closet to eat it either! Where was the first Krystal restaurant opened and when?

5. Do you remember who recorded "One Bad Apple".
It made the top of Billboard's Hot 100  in February 1971 and stayed there for five weeks.

6.  How about this car! It was the most desirable auto in its' day. This was the car every young man wanted to own and the one in which every young girl wanted to be seen. Of course Bob had one. He was a red blooded American, right? His was a little more mauve that this one.

Do you have memories of days gone by?  I would love it if you would share YOUR memories! What do you remember?

Thanks for traveling down that lane of memories with me. I would love to hear from you!

What fun, Ginger! Do you know you can still buy those little wax bottle things? I have seen them at Cracker Barrel and on the internet. I bought some for the grandkids once...lol...but they thought the wax "gum" was kind of gross.

AND- I loved those disco years. Were we ever really that young? I also did "the bump"...remember that dance?

I remember the 70's as being more a carefree time of my life- even though I had 4 kids and not a lot of money. We didn't worry about nuclear war like we had when I was real young and everyone we knew was in the same boat financially. We did't have a lot of money but we made our own fun. I moved from Florida to Wisconsin when I got married and that was a culture shock!

The Osmond Brothers sang One Bad Apple. They were such a clean cut looking group, weren't they? And it also makes me think of Davy Jones and the Monkees and his passing this last week.

Great post, Ginger. I hope you have a great weekend- xo Diana

What memories! I loved those little "nothing but sugar & dye" soda bottles. Pair those with one of those fake cigarettes that had powder on the end to resemble smoke and it was a good day! Luckily I got my smoking days over with with the fake cigarette gum instead of the real thing!!! I don't need another bad habit to try to kick!

OMGoodness! What memories! Those little wax bottles were the coolest! Krystals, I still love them to this day and we do not have Krystal. We have White Castle and sorry, just not the same. I always find a Krystal when I travel! Thanks for the memories! I think Bob Hope always said that!

I DO remember 4 out of the 6. In 1971 I must have been studying too hard to know the top songs or I was head over heals in love and didn't listen.

Happy Pink Saturday!

I remember those liquid wax bottles. I went to a Nostaligia candy store in Savannah a few years back and my daughter bought some. Bleck. We LIKED that stuff???

I remember clove gum, Hippie Sippie giant straws with powdered fruity yumminess. I also loved those little KITS candies.

I remember ice cream cones were 25 for large ones and Filet O'Fish sandwiches at McD's were only 82 cents my senior year in high school! We bought one last night for Lenten Friday and it was $3.89!!

I remember JT and Saturday Night Fever and teasing my BFF for loving it. I was into Springsteen and Jethro Tull back then and disco was hard to stomach for a rocker, haha.

I could go on forever but better let others have their turn.

What a FUN blog question!

I remember when $5 fill up your car and .25 cents bought a big candy bar. I remember being tied to the phone with a cord & a rotary dial. No remote control for the TV and only 3 stations with nothing on after midnight. I remember when hair-blowdryers were something new. I remember when Reagan gave a speech at the RNC when he lost to Ford- but the speech didn't sound like one of the loser!

I hate to admit it, but I remember most of the things that you have featured..

I remember crying for days when JFK died, I remember sitting in front of the TV watching the Beatles appear on the Ed Sullivan Show, I remember when some of our friends went off to serve in Viet Nam, some of them never returning, I remember in school, ducking under our desks (for duck and cover), when the Cuban Missile Crisis was going on...I think about that now, and wonder why did we do that?..If we got "hit" the desk surely would not have protected us!

I remember buying those wax lips, and fun stix, and Mary Janes...I remember rolling my hair with tin cans on the top of my head..slathering it with "dippity-doo"..

I will stop now, as I am truly dating myself!!!

Yes, I remember candy cigarettes, wax lips (still use them with my red hat ladies), the little wax bottles, and so much more. Sock hops were fun...oh, the memories! Thanks for asking us to put on our remembering hats!

Ginger, thanks for the Memory Lane stroll! Wow and yes, I do very well remember the wax drinks and Travolta dancing and no way could I dance like that--not a good dancer. Love the music. I remember sock hops, too. Loads of memories of fun times. Great post. Hope you are joining Linky Follower and will follow me on it, too. Thanks, Helen

Oh, Ginger, I love all those memories. I, too, wanted to be Princess Summerfallwinterspring and loved saying her name! Never missed Howdy Doody or The Mickey Mouse Club!

Oh' boy were times different back then. We lived next to a little country store and I still remember getting 2 pieces of candy for a penny. That was the early 60s. For a nickle you had a whole bag of candy. And the super bubble gum, squirrel nut, mary janes were all twice the size they are now.

Hope your sons well on the way to being better.

Goodness gracious, I remember everything!! Loved the Krystal's (still do); there was one next to my job, and I ate there every.single.day! 50 cents bought 2 Krystals, fries and a Coke! Heaven. :)

I'm new here, and LOVE this post.

Have a wonderful evening. :)

Oh goodness, yes! I remember those wax juice bottle thingys! Remember Pixie Sticks? Those wonderful straws filled with powdery, sugary goodness? I really get a kick out of seeing my GRANDCHILDREN with those! We didn't have Krystal burgers around here, so I've never had one. What I do remember is that we were allowed to drive cars to school in high school and go off campus for lunch. My mother gave me 50 cents each day for lunch, which I used to buy a hamburger, fries and Coke and Hardees. Now we are happy when we can buy one measly item from the $1 menu!

That was fun...I have one that will curl the hipsters toes. There was no such thing as baby car seats, so my mom just held my baby brother in her lap and then when he got bigger he was put in flimsy seat that hooked over the passengers seat surrounded by cheap plastic and a fake steering wheel

Princess Summerfallwinterspring.....I love it and Mr. Bluster and Clarabell who honked and honked his horn. Oh my goodness, that does bring back memories. Howdy Doody and Mr. Wizard were just about my favorite shows. When did they end?

Babs said...

Ginger, A friend and I were reminiscing the other day about Princess Summerfallwinterspring. LOL How funny. Atlanta had a children's show similar to Howdy Doody. It was called Woody Willow, also Officer Don.I used to like the red wax lips. Thanks for all the fun memories and the shout out. Hugs,

I remember those little bottles!
I also remember me and my cousin WALKING to the store(The "Jiffy Store") to get candy and drinks. I wouldn't let my kids walk to the mailbox without me watching today.

I remember when it was safe for your children to play outside all day long up & down the road or street to their friends house.

It's nice to know others lived same time I was a kid

Now I do remember those wax bottles, I LOVED them so much I even at the wax LOL. And of course Saturday night fever. This summer we went on the Brooklyn pizza tour and they show us where John walked down the street in a scene, it was so cool for the moment. Love your flashbacks in time Ginger. Hope all is well.

I'm always so unfashionably late to parties, but eventually I get there.

I've been singing "One Bad Apple" in my head since reading this. The one I'm thinking of was sung by my favorite family of heartthrobs, the Osmonds. I don't think I ever crushed on a singer as much I crushed on Donnie. Merle sang the lead on that one, though, I think.

And I was a teen of the disco era so I well remember Saturday Night Fever and disco dancing.

These are so fun. Someone should host a "Memory Lane" party. Maybe you could do it!

Dearest Ginger,

So good for being able to visit you again, in Georgia that is! We got back from our lovely vacation in Curaçao, one of the countries of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in the Caribbean. Great weather and lots of resting up. Now is the pay-back time. Mean for having to catch up on things after each trip.
Love to you,
Mariette

Ginger, I loved this post, and most of the things I do remember and did... like Disco and biting off the tops of the wax bottles. LOL!

I remember clothes hung out on the clothes line, sheets sunning and blowing gently in the breeze. I remember homemade blackberry cobbler made from blackberries we picked fresh from the pasture, and I remember my mother's perfume. She wore Blue Hour by Guerlain.

I'm so sorry I haven't been blogging. I've had computer issues and am on Mr. Magpie's work computer tonight. Don't know when I am going to have a chance to get a new one because I am up to my eyeballs in life stuff... Adelaide's husband had a triple bypass (unexpected), and another friend's husband is in the final days of pancreatic cancer. I have had no time to blog which I miss SO much.

I hope to be back by the end of spring. I miss you and all of my blogging buddies.

Take good care...

XO,

Sheila :-)
